Low Legislation Declares “Conversion Therapy” Fraudulent

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Evan Low (D-San Jose) and a conversion therapy survivor testified before the Assembly Judiciary Committee on Assembly Bill 2943 which would declare the practice of “conversion therapy” treatments that claim to be able to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity as legally fraudulent. “Study after study has shown that ‘conversion therapy’ is ineffective, damaging, and counterproductive,” said Assemblymember Low. “It is our duty to protect Californians from such deceptive practices that will expose them to physical and emotional harm.” To see more about the effect of conversion therapy on its victims, please watch this Assembly Access video.
