SACRAMENTO — Assemblymember Evan Low’s Assembly Bill (AB) 3034, which waives the first two years of tuition at a California State University for eligible students completing at least one year of service in the California Conservation Corps, passed out of the Senate Education Committee.
Assemblymember Evan Low said,
“AB 3034 expands opportunities for students to attend a State University tuition-free for the first two years – providing a new pathway for California students to obtain a university education more affordably – in exchange for one year of service supporting California’s conservation and emergency response efforts in the California Conservation Corps.”
The legislation sets basic requirements to be eligible for two years of tuition-free State University, including, students must be a resident of California, must complete at least one year of service within two years of joining the California Conservation Corps, and must be “persons and families of low or moderate income.” Eligible students also must also enroll in an undergraduate program at a State University within two years of completing their service in the California Conservation Corps, and maintain full-time enrollment, a minimum grade point average to be in good standing, and good behavioral standing at the institution.
The legislation now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
