SACRAMENTO—Today Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley), chair of the California Legislative LGBT Caucus, honored the Palm Springs Mayor, Mayor pro tem, City Manager, and City Council on the Assembly floor.
The City of Palm Springs made history in November 2017 when it elected the first all LGBTQ city council in the country.
This historic feat was decades in the making for the town of 47,000, where Ron Oden became the first gay person elected to the Palm Springs City Council in 1995, and eight years later, became Palm Springs’ first gay mayor and ushered in the City Council’s first gay majority.
“As we celebrate Pride Month, the City of Palm Springs is proof that when openly-LGBT elected and appointed officials serve our communities it changes the conversation, positively impacting our state through policy and legislation,” said Assemblymember Low.
