SACRAMENTO—California Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley) released the following statement about the 2017-2018 California State Budget passage. The Budget expands social service programs, increases funding for education, and continues to build the Rainy Day reserve to avoid cuts in the future. In a major victory for the district, the State Budget also allocates $5.4 million to assist those affected by the Coyote Creek flood in Santa Clara County.
“This Budget reflects our California values by increasing funding for social services, education, and healthcare, all while setting aside reserves for the future.
While I am glad to see $546 million from Prop. 56 revenue allocated to increase Medi-Cal provider rates and expand access to health care, I am concerned that the language in the bill will give the Department of Health Care Services the authority to adjust the allocations. I will keep a close eye on the program moving forward to ensure the funding remains intact.
The Budget also allocates $5.4 million to victims of the Coyote Creek flood, which displaced thousands of San Jose residents and caused devastating damage in our region. I want to thank members of our local delegation for joining the request for funding to help residents get the relief they desperately need.”
